Game-Changing Meditation Tips for Beginners and my Neurodivergent Squad
I’m a neurospicy gworl, meditation guide and spiritual mentor. I hear so many of my neurospicy clients, with ADHD struggling with meditation! And I get it! I struggled a bunch too when I first started, but I got you covered friend! Meditation can change your life! It’s been life changing for me. And it shouldn’t just be for neurotypical brains. Actually, once you understand how to leverage your neurodivergent superpowers, meditation can not only be helpful and healing but it can be extremely enjoyable!
Here are some life changing tips for my beginners and neurodivergents:
Start Small
Don’t feel pressured to go crazy with the length of your meditations at first! Even a 2 minute meditation can be effective!
Give yourself Permission
Literally! Say it and repeat it whenever you need to through your meditation. It puts you in the zone and speaks to your subconcious! Saying that you give yourself permission to drop everything before and after the very moment of your meditation and just BE HERE speaks to your subconscious. It helps to tune you in.
Guided Group Meditations
Group meditations are fun and take away some of the pressure! Moonglow holds guided group meditations every full moon on private Youtube lives or Zoom. Check out when our next one is here. In ours, I go over what will happen beforehand and answer any questions you may have about your experience afterwards. We’ve built quite the sweet community of people who support and encourage each other. This is so helpful for those who need to be reminded that meditation is a journey and that we’re all on it together!
Thoughts Are Clouds
People tend to think meditation is about not having any intrusive thoughts, and that my friend is WRONG! Try simply acknowledging any intrusive thoughts that may come up during your meditation experience and imagine them as clouds. Simply let them drift away and bring your attention back to your meditation.
Release Expectations
As mentioned earlier, meditation is a practice! It’s completely normal for it to look and feel a little different each time you do it Make the journey of meditation the goal, not the outcome! It’s okay to have off days. (Why am I hearing “everybody makes mistakes, everybody has those days.” from that Hannah Montana Song? Please tell me you know what I am talking about LOL.) For starting a more mindful meditation journey, check out the Meditation Journal here.
Here are some key takeaways: Meditation is a life-changing practice and holds incredible potential for neurodivergent individuals. So, don't rush; start small and give yourself that much-needed permission to fully immerse in the experience. Guided group meditations provide a delightful sense of community and support. Remember, thoughts are like passing clouds; acknowledge them and let them drift away. Lastly, embrace the ever-changing nature of meditation – it's a journey, not a fixed destination.
So, let's embrace our neurospicy selves, ride those thought-clouds, and keep movin' on this wonderful meditation journey towards healing, together!
